Drawbacks of T-Fal Stainless Steel Cooware

 

Any legitimate product review should include negatives of a product.  I will admit I was not able to find too many negatives for this stainless steel cookware.

The biggest drawback I found was that, while the T-fal E469SC Tri-Ply stainless steel cookware is designed in the US and France, to keep this high quality stainless steel cookware affordable, it is not manufactured in the US as their high end professional cookware line is.

In their defense, Groupe SEB of France, the owner of T-fal and All-Clad cookware strictly monitors the manufacturing process to ensure it meets exacting manufacturing standards. This allows them to offer high quality and affordable cookware for all budgets.

The Emeril All-Clad Pro-Clad Stainless Steel Cookware line has been discontinued.

      To answer your question, I am not sure what you mean by loose fitting since these lids generally do not make a really tight seal, but should not slosh around on the pot. I checked the lids on my pans before responding to your comment, and they do move around a little. They are definitely not as tight fitting as with cast iron pots, that’s for sure. If the pans don’t have a steam release hole, they are sometimes a little loose to allow steam to escape so they don’t make a mess on your stove. Since you bought the pan at Amazon, they have an easy return policy if you are not totally happy.

  7. There seems to be a lot of confusion about 18/10 versus 18/0 stainless steel. I am a metallurgist and thought perhaps I could clear this up. 18/10 has nothing to do with the thickness of the steel. It has 18% chrome and 10% nickel. This makes it very stain resistant but it’s nonmagnetic. If you want to cook on an induction stovetop you must have something magnetic in the construction to transform the electrical magnetic energy into heat. The 18/0 steel is magnetic enough for induction heating. Therefore the heat transfer goes to the outer layer of steel and then is then spread through the pot by the nonmagnetic aluminum layer in the all clad construction. It is true that the 18/0 steel is a little cheaper but that is not why it is used. 18/10 is used for the interior of the pot since that needs to be most nonreactive with foods and easiest to clean. I hope this helps your readers understand why a quality pot would be made with slightly cheaper materials.

Actually, now with the focus on induction cooking, some cookware manufacturers are moving away from noting “18/10 stainless” which indicates high quality stainless of 18% chrome and 10% nickel that resists staining. Induction ready stainless steel has a magnetic bottom, which changes the make up of the stainless steel and technically can’t be called 18/10 stainless. The 18/10 version of stainless steel generally is not induction capable. I will update the pot with this information. Regards, Ken
