What is the Best Masticating Juicer You Can Buy?

What is a masticating juicer

Buying a juicing machine to make fresh squeezed juice for you and your family can be good for your health, especially with so many kids juices including added sugar, corn syrup and other unhealthy additives, but the decision of which juicer to buy can be confusing.

As a stay at home dad I am always looking for tools and gadgets that helps make my job easier, while helping me provide cost effective, nutritious and healthy foods and beverages for my kids.

There are several types of juicing machines on the market today at various price points with different features and capabilities.  While your first choice may be to buy the cheapest juicer, which is a reasonable one, it may not be the best choice. While a cheap juicer may look good at the store, but once you get it home and start using your juicing machine, the drawbacks of why it is a cheap juicer may become obvious.

Our research indicates that the best juicer is a masticating juicer.  You will learn the benefits of a masticating juicer over a centrifugal juicer, which is the most common juicer on the market that spins to extract the juice.

What is a Masticating Juicer?

Let’s start with the basic question – what is a masticating juicer?  A masticating juicer grinds the fruit and vegetables up similar to the way your teeth grinds up food as you chew it, and is the most efficient way to fully extract juice from fruits, vegetables, leafy greens and grasses.  A masticating  juicer has the added benefit of being able to grind up nuts, coffee, wheat and many other items, in addition to making your favorite healthy juice.

A masticating juicer is a low speed juicer that has a single gear designed to crush the fruits, vegetables and grasses and fully extract its healthy juice.  A masticating juicer has an auger that spins at just 80 RPM, as compared to a centrifugal juicer with teeth that spins at 1,650 to  as high as 15,000 rpm.  The benefit of the low speed of the masticating juicer is that it protects and maintains healthy enzymes in the juice, prevents oxidation and allows juice to be stored up to 72 hours without degradation.

Most juicers on the market today are centrifugal juicers, in which they spin at a high rate of speed, and as teeth grind the flesh of the fruit or vegetable into pulp, the high speed spinning motion separates the juice which comes out of an opening on the side into a waiting glass or container.  This type of juicer is designed to extract the juice from soft or hard fruits and veggies, but can’t do much with leafy greens and grasses.

The Omega 8006 masticating juicer is the most versatile juicer on the market today.  You can read more about the Omega 8006 here.  It can make juice from soft and hard vegetables, like a centrifugal juicer, and can extract juice from leafy greens and wheatgrass, which many natural health experts say is the most healthy juice you can drink, as it contains many natural enzymes that defend against most health conditions, including cancer.

Doesn’t Just Make Juice

A centrifugal juicer is a one-trick pony.   It can do one thing – make juice.  The Omega 8006 is more than just a juicer, it is all of your popular small kitchen appliances in one.  It makes juice from hard and soft fruits and vegetables (just like that expensive juicer you see on tv or your favorite appliance store), extracts juice from leafy greens and grasses- a job that regular juicers can’t do, has attachments that allow it to work as a food processor, coffee grinder, pasta maker, and peanut butter maker.  Try that with a regular centrifugal juicer!

This one appliance takes the place of 4 of the most popular small kitchen appliances and for less than what it would cost to buy each one separately.  Just think of how much counter space and cabinet space you’ll gain when you can get rid of 3-5 bulky kitchen appliances.

What is the Best Masticating Juicer You Can Buy?

A masticating juicer should be able to make wheatgrass juice and exract juice from any other type of leafy green vegetable.  In addition to making juice, a good masticating juicer should have attachment options to make nut butters, sauces, make home-made baby food and even make fresh pasta.

Here are the benefits of the Omega 8006, one of the most popular masticating juicers, that makes it a popular choice for people who want to make fresh squeezed juice at home:

  • Makes home-made juice more efficiently than a centrifugal juicer
  • Makes fresh wheatgrass juice
  • Grinds peanuts into fresh peanut butter
  • Grinds fresh fruits and vegetables natural organic baby food
  • Makes wholesome natural pasta
  • Grinds coffee beans into all major types from coffee makers, latte/cappuccino and percolators.
  • Works as a food processor

Thanks for all info. I did my own test at home and found my old Braun centrifugal made more and sweeter juice than my new slow juicer Witt by Kuvings. That was very disappointing! I also tested my Witt against my friend’s horizontal slow juicer from Philips. My Witt made much more, but Philips made much cooler juice. All ingredients measured and the same temp before. Does the horizontal makes cooler juice than the vertical?

      Hey James,

Thanks for your comment – Does the horizontal makes cooler juice than the vertical?

      The simple answer is yes.

      I found at:

      https://thejuicerdirectory.com/masticating-vs-centrifugal-juicers/

The slow press masticating juicers squeeze the juice out of the food very slowly using a masticating or chewing motion, the way we chew our food, so there isn’t a lot of friction created.

Since it is done so slowly, there isn’t a lot of heat built up either, which is common with vertical or centrifugal juicers, which create heat as the food spins at high RPM.

Many juicing enthusiasts are quite concerned about the heat and friction factor since they believe that this can kill the enzymes in the food.

      Hope this helps.
