As a parent myself, I can appreciate your confusion.
I have used both the Magic Bullet and the Nurtri Bullet. The biggest difference between the two machines is the motor speed. The Nutri Bullet motor is quite a bit faster than the Magic Bullet motor.
My only concern here is that it is easy to over mix the food with this machine, so if you want thicker chunkier food, you may find it easier to achieve this is with the Magic Bullet, but either will work.
You may want to look into the Baby Bullet, which is specifically foe making baby food.

Really confusing that both models say “Magic Bullet” on them. One on the top of the base, the other on the bottom.

Both the Magic Bullet and Nutribullet are made by Homeland Housewares, LLC.
I agree it can be a bit confusing that both bases say Magic Bullet, yet the Nutribullet name is displayed up above.
The motors are quite different with the Nutribullet motor spinning at 600 RPM and the Magic Bullet motor spins at 250 RPM.
Also the cups are not interchangeable, another significant difference.

It’s a few years later, after your last comment and post. Today I watched on the news about how the NutriBullet builds up pressure when blending foods and has caused multiple injuries. Many people are suing the company over their gruesome injuries sustained while using the NutriBullet. What say you about anything like that? Have you ever noticed any type of pressure build up with the NutriBullet? I have a Magic Bullet and have never had this problem.

Wow, that’s crazy. I have never heard of anything like that happening, either with our Magic Bullet or Ninja blender.
I did read in the instructions if blending a hot liquid use the vented lid to prevent heat build up.
I used the vented lid (per instructions) when making Alfredo sauce, since you blend hot liquids.
I am not sure whether I should get a nutribullet, magic bullet or food processor.
I want something that will last and will allow me to do these tasks:
+ make nut butter
+ make bliss balls (i.e. blend dates & nuts etc.)
+ chop onions/garlic/carrots etc.
+ make hummus
+ make smoothies/juices
+ make acai bowl
+ make vegetarian patties

I have used all three. I have used a Nutribullet, and we owned a Magic Bullet that we used everyday until I literally wore the rubber gears to nubs that were smoking. I preferred the Magic Bullet as it made better salsa and crushed ice than a Nurtibullet.
I replaced the gears but it just never worked the same, so we bought a Ninja System 1500 to replace it. It’s loud, but a workhorse in the kitchen. We make peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, smoothies, grind coffee, makes the best hummus and baba ganoush ever, egg salad, caulirice, whatever you want.

A friend of mine has the magic bullet and says the gears have worn out after a few months of regular use making smoothies. Said it really grinds his gears :()
My NB is still going strong after 4 years.
Thought you would want to know these facts, as they somewhat contradict your conclusion that you can’t go wrong with either. It seems like you can indeed go wrong by choosing the Magic Bullet.
My partner Sandy and I frequently enjoy “smoothies in bed” on Saturday mornings. He prefers strawberry with flaxseed. I’m more of a banana man ;)
Any product that wears out after just a few months is defective.
Our Magic Bullet lasted several years before the rubber gears wore out. All we had to do was replace the gears, which you can buy on Ebay for about $10, so you still can’t go wrong as by the time you have replace gears, you will have more than gotten your money’s worth.
I think the manufacturer should not use rubber in gears, as the grinding at high RPM will cause them to wear out.
If I want to be able to make a smoothie that includes ice cubes, is the magic bullet strong enough to turn the ice cubes into the smoothie? Or would I need to crush the ice separately, with the other blade? My roommate’s nutribullet was able to, but I can’t quite tell from this info if the magic bullet would be able to at the same time as blending everything else.
Which one would make spices, like salt or cumin as fine as possible, without burning them? Thanks

You can use either. The key is to use the milling blade.
The Nutribullet has a faster motor than the Magic Bullt, so the milling blade spins at a faster RPM. If you’re concerned about the spices being burned, go with the Magic Bullet. Either way, check the milling frequently until the spices are at your desired consistency.

Just returned magic bullet as it did not mince ginger as indicated on the box. This was my main reason for buying the appliance as I cook curries nearly every day. Also my salsa did not look like the photo on the box, it was completely pulverised. It tasted fine. For my needs a very small food processor would be fine. Also it would be no good for baby food

We currently have a Ninja 1500 Kitchen System. It is big, clunky, and loud, but it is a workhorse.
We used to have a Magic Bullet and I have used a nutribullet.
If you have a small kitchen, I agree you probably need to downgrade your appliance to something smaller without losing features and functionality.
If you want to make smoothies, the Nutribullet is a good solution, however if you plan to make pesto, hummus, or Alfredo sauce I recommend the Magic Bullet. The slightly smaller motor of the Magic Bullet produces a chunkier pesto sauce and hummus.
The Magic Bullet 26 pc set also comes with several containers and a drink pitcher, and an ice crusher blade, which is not available with the Nutribullet. If you choose the smaller Magic Bullet Set you can purchase an ice crusher blade at Amazon or Ebay.

Hi Deb, thanks for your comment. The Magic Bullet 26 pc set comes with a small pitcher/blender that will allow you to chop or dice vegetables in small quantity. The slower motor of the Magic Bullet allows you to chop veggies, and just a bit more time you can turn them into a smoothie. I would not try this with the Nutribullet though. The faster motor of the Nutribullet will turn your veggies straight into a smoothie.

Don’t let the smaller motor fool you, it is quite powerful, and can handle

To make a slurry or slush, I would use the Magic Bullet. The NutriBullet I think spins at too high an RPM, and is better for smoothies. The slower RPM of the Magic Bullet produces chunkier pieces of ice.

Hi Paul, great question. The Nutribullet and Magic Bullet are made by the same company. The Nutribullet has a larger and more powerful motor than the Magic Bullet. Even in the US, the Nutribullet references the name Magic Bullet on its base, so this may be a way to show that Nutribullet is not ripping off the Magic Bullet to sell it’s similar high speed blender.
